My inital thoughts were, how on earth is he going to incorporate all those ideas into such a small space...but then I thought, well its JP, he'll manage it, and with style. Having a love for gardening I'm So looking forward to seeing it develop.
This was a great post, JP. Your pleached hedge is looking wonderful. Instant gratification (after all the hard work preparing the site, of course). Really looking forward to further developments.
JP - have I told you lately that I love your writing 🌟You are a complete natural. I too spend an inordinate amount of time in my outdoor space. In this village, a few people have dropped dead in their gardens. What a perfect passing 😁.
I garden on limestone clay but family members have just bought in Devon on what is obviously very acid soil. You mention Camellias so you too must be on acid soil. So I will be following your planting with interest so I can advise them what to plant.🪴 Can’t wait to see the developments in your garden Xxxx
Bea thank you so much, that’s made me very happy. Yes, it’s pretty acidic in places, but oddly not everywhere. I’m going to be doing some more soil tests in various locations in the garden to be sure of what to plant.
It’s going to be beautiful!! Totally agree with you on “plant blind” builders 😉 I have found pleached trees to be far more thirsty than the untrained versions so get someone to water them if you have plans to be away!
Gosh, what a project. I’m not really a gardener but needs must and I took such inspiration from your last garden. I have no idea what I’m doing most of the time but I now have a fabulous limelight and rose border, encouraged by you. Looking forward to seeing what you create in your forever garden. Exciting.
I love your plans JP - I thought I was the only one making notes at 3 in the morning when unable to sleep! What a lot of space that holly took up and great to see the stone wall. You are right about it getting worse to get better - I am nearly at the getting better point in painting thsmat summerhouse!
It is Cuprinol Garden Shades Wild Thyme chosen from about ten tester pots. If I can figure out how to send a photo when it's finished, I will do that! We are away on Monday for two weeks so want to get two coats done before then. Better get my skates on eh!
I loved the pics of your previous garden - so restful and special. Looking forward to the continued transformations in the new one. Rather you than me - you've been working so hard already. I've just managed a new rockery under our fountain (single-handed), but I smile every time I walk past it. We have about a million pots in our garden, so I'm in the midst of top-dressing them all. Golly, it's knackering. Do people still do that or is it just me?!? Always love your mini-video chats, JP! 😍👏👏👏

Also Bea, what a way to go indeed! I’d say there isn’t a better one.

Sounds heavenly JP, looking forward to seeing it all come together 🥰

The thought that one of my gardens would inspire you has actually made my day, thank you Liane.

Ooh what colour have you chosen?

That’s my favourite shade of theirs! I chose my colors for the Home & Hort branding based on it!
Great minds ...and all that jazz!

It’s so satisfying when you create something like that yourself. Yep, I still top dress. Xx
Can’t wait to see it come together. xx
It’s going to be slow in places, but good to get started.
‘Romantic, free-spirited and joyful’ - ABSOLUTELY. Everything a garden should be. Thank you JP and do hope you enjoy the book! 💚🌱
Loving your book Jo, it’s really got me thinking, particularly about using my surroundings and who and what the garden is for. Thank you.
Love all your plans JP, it's going to be another beautiful garden you create. The pleached trees are looking great. X
Thank you Elaine
