Wow!! I can see you there when you retire! Swinging gently on your porch in your beautiful teal weatherboarded house! Tending to that garden in your spare hours! lol! Xx

This is incredible. I’d love to read about your years-long relationship with Key West: how you met and fell in love, your long history, the role it has played in your life….

(I LOVE an island. Am reading this on the Isle of Wight which is rather less glamorous island but nonetheless dear to my heart. See also the Ile de Re and Corsica.)

That’s something I’m working on Natasha. I must visit the Isle of Wight at some point, we’re so close to it.

Looks beautiful JP! I went to Australia years ago and I’ve never experienced humidity and heat like it! Until you experience it, you just don’t realise! And to think the gardeners are gardening in that! Hats off to them.

You’re so right Sophie. I remember the first time I ever exited Miami airport, it was like opening a hot oven door.

Late getting to this…What a glorious film….and the orchids! Oh the orchids……🥹 My over riding memory of Key West (in the late 90s) was of American frat boy types roaming the streets…I obvs need to return now that I’m an old git 😉….so thanks for sharing JP…

It depends on the time of year and where you stay. We’re always away from the crowds in the historic neighborhood. Xx

How stunning, I felt as thought I had walked around that garden with you and now I’m looking out on that beautiful blue sparkling waters edge. Thanks for sharing just what I needed 🌴🌊

I haven’t been on a pedalbackwardstop bike in I don’t know how many decades! Taking your life in your hands JP!

I really was! Luckily, it’s so laid back on the roads it’s like being in another century, and there’s huge respect for cyclists. Phew! 🤣🩷

Oooww thankyou for showing us this glorious place! How tempted were you to buy some if those plants to bring home?!! It looked like some were growing out of fragments of bark, is that right? Xx

JP Clark's avatar

Oh I’m beside myself every year knowing I can’t buy any! Yes, some of the orchids are grown directly on bark. Xx

Lovely, JP. I have a theory that there is an island somewhere in the world for all of us. Mine is Tresco, Isles of Scilly. Your connection to Key West feels so relatable.

I love that theory and now I want to know more about Tresco Julia.

You’d LOVE Tresco Abbey Gardens, JP. A tropical paradise, and just 20 minutes by plane/helicopter from the tip of Cornwall! All within an island without cars, with beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and hardly anyone on them! Two on a beach is crowded!! Add it to your must visit list😉
