What a brilliant list, JP. You’ve missed off my favourite film ever, Local Hero. How a small community in Scotland gets one over the sophisticated and worldly American oil executive 😉
This is a really great list JP, thank you. We watched The Six Triple Eight last week, incredible!
May I also recommend Joy, with the marvellous Bill Nighy. He plays Dr Patrick Steptoe, based on the true story of the birth (no pun intended) of IVF in the UK. Co-starring the lovely James Norton, never a bad thing in my book x
What a fascinating, fabulous (all nice F things) list.
You’re a champion of more modern films I see, of which I also like the feel-good of ‘you’ve got mail’, ‘funny bones’ and even newer ‘two weeks notice’, ‘ticket to paradise’… This just scratches the surface - films can be so immersive, and touch many different emotions, so I have no idea how you were disciplined enough to restrict to 83! I’ve never seen ‘the colour purple’ it seemed too sad and heavy a watch, but shall now give it a try.
Great recommendations there Tina. Thank you. The Color Purple is sad in parts, but also very funny and truly uplifting. It has everything. I read the book first and then saw the movie twice in one day at the cinema back in ‘85. The musical does it justice too.
Boy, do we need this distraction, JP! I absolutely loved Hidden Figures and Erin Brokockovich. The Colour Purple (original film) is one of my top favourites of all! Also another Will Smith movie called King Richard. I feel like watching The Pursuit of Happiness again now. Thanks so much for this.
Thanks for sharing your film list. I’ve been living under a stone cos I’ve only seen half of them. What, no ET ✨?? Love hearing about your every day life X
Shouldn't The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert be on the list? I loved that movie. And The Castle (Australian movie from 1997) is one of the most uplifting movies I've seen, the kind of movie that stays with you.
Excellent list JP you’ve got a lot on that I’ve seen and enjoyed. One I think should go on is A Man Called Otto which I absolutely loved it’s got Tom Hanks in as Otto. Otherwise it was fantastic xx
Oh a few on there I haven't seen JP. I have another one for you The boy who harnessed the wind. It's a beautiful true story of one boys amazing engineering brain that saved his village from hunger.
I was thinking only a few days ago it's been too long since I watched The Truman Show and this is the final nudge that makes it this weekend's watch. May I respectfully add Stand By Me to your list
I saw you mentioned The Truman Show in your marvellous chapter this week Mark. Such a great film. How could I possible have forgotten Stand by me? Doh. Thank you.
I love an inspirational movie and you named my favorite of all time - Legally Blonde! I also love that you added The Notebook and Billy Elliott to the list. Great ones! ❤️

That’s another to add to my watch list Moira
I really envy you seeing it for the first time. A bonus is the brilliant soundtrack by Mark Knopfler and a very, very young Peter Capaldi.
Agree Moira, it’s a lovely film.
I have to stop myself watching it too often but I do listen to the soundtrack a lot, Tina
Great list - thanks for sharing. Hidden Figures is a brilliant film. I'm going to have to work through your list and watch those I've missed.
Thank you. Should keep you busy for a bit.

Ooh that’s one I have not seen. Thank you!
Oh JP - you watched it! *Hands over eyes* Sending you Anne of Green Gables vibes to offset the horrors. xx
We knew we shouldn’t, but couldn’t resist. Horrified, perhaps why we had to watch Hidden Figures straight afterwards. Anne, of course, must add that!
These are dark times indeed. Films like these much needed.
Here to bring a little joy Penny. X
That you do, far more than a little x

The original Color Purple is my favourite film of all time Frances. Thanks for the other recommendation. Xx

Thank you and hope you see a few more of them over the coming months.

Another brilliant film and one that should definitely be on it. I don’t think I’ve seen The Castle, so that’s one for me to watch.

Do you know I was supposed to add that and forgot. Read the book and didn’t think they could make a film that would do it justice, but I was wrong.
Ooooh totally agree - Hidden Figures is just fabulous - the six triple eight equally wonderful all the more interesting for being true stories ❤️❤️
I have to say I love a true story.
I think Six Triple Eight was fabulous. Now I must watch Hidden Figures.
On Netflix now

Thanks Sam. I’ll search for that one. Have a great weekend.

You can’t be expected to remember everything!

Legally Blonde seemed an odd choice for some, but I find it very inspiring and I adore Reese.
Same! I watch it whenever I need inspiration to overcome something. And who doesn't love Reese 😊 ❤️
Thanks JP. Always good to have recommendations. Hope you recover from the inauguration soon!
Cheers Karen xxx
Well, I’m a man for a start. I think perhaps you’re on the wrong app.
I think you’d also like ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’, JP xx
Thank you for those. I’ll check them out.
