Midweek Musings #11 - Dollops of joy
Things to make you smile: A candle update, Interior Design Masters, a fab bedding sale, a giggly video, a book & some gorgeous things I’ve seen and want.
Lordy! Well, what the hell is going to happen now? I’m not going to wade into the whole post U.S election debate really, this space is for escapism, nurturing a happy home and finding as many big dollops of joy in life as humanly possible. I can’t possibly be all things to all people, so I’m going to stay in my lane. Everyone has their reasons for voting the way they did and who am I to judge? Personally though and for all my many friends in the States, I worry for the future.
But let’s get on to brighter things. Today I’m going to be telling you about an amazing bedding sale coming up very soon, I’ll be chatting about what I love and love to hate on TV, there’s two fab candle tips I forgot to tell you about and some lovely things I’ve seen and want online. Plus, there’s a short little video flash back to early December last year, before I moved house, which is worth the watch just because I can’t stop laughing and it might make you giggle and forget you woes for a bit.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for the wonderful response to my candle post. It really was a mammoth task and so for it to be well-received is an absolute joy. Hello and welcome to quite a large number of new members too. I’ve recently reconfigured my page to make it easier for you to find everything, so it’s now under sections on my home page: Home, Hort, Life, Crafts, Midweek Musings, etc.
You can also join us on our private chat forum later today at 5pm, where we discuss anything and everything. It’s a great place to get to know each other.
A candle update
There are a couple of juicy things, believe it or not, that I cut from my candle post because it was starting to be more like a book than a Substack post and it had to end somewhere. Here they are:
Only ever burn a candle in a jar down to the last 5mm. Leaving it till it burns out entirely can run the risk of the glass overheating and possibly shattering, or exploding. But, what do you do if you want to use the container again for a refill, or something else? TOP TIP: pop the jar in the freezer overnight. The next morning take it out and leave it upside down to stand for an hour. Then tap gently on the bottom of the jar and the 5mm disk of wax should fall out. If it doesn’t, then take a butter knife and gently pop the wax disk out. I tried it yesterday and it worked first time.
If your candle is burning low and you don’t have long matches, or a fire lighter, then use a dried spaghetti or linguini stick. It’ll light straight away and make it easy to get to the wick without burning your fingers.
To read the rest you will need a paid membership. This is your last chance to get 15% off the annual fee and lock in the price before it goes up at the end of this week. It will never go up as long as you stay subscribed.
