Designing a bathroom can at first glance seem relatively easy. What can you get wrong? All you need is a loo, sink and either a bath, shower, or both, right? However, the reality is actually quite a lot more complicated, and without careful planning it’s easy to make costly mistakes. I know, we’ve definitely had plenty of washroom mini disasters in the past.

Everyone’s idea of a dream bathroom is different, but most involve plenty of space, perhaps a roll top bath fit for a reigning monarch, a rain shower wet-room area, sumptuous warm tiles, high end fittings, dual vanity sinks, subtle lighting and plenty of storage.

The reality for most of us though is that the bathroom is one the smallest rooms in the house, so how do you get that sense of comfort and luxury if you are compromised on space? Especially as bathrooms used to be purely practical spaces, but now so much more is expected of them. A lot of us want a space to relax, unwind and pamper ourselves, and we want them to be beautiful too.

Other than the kitchen, the bathroom is the most important room in your home as far as resale value is concerned, so it’s important to get it right. Today and next Thursday, I thought I’d share all the things I’ve learned from designing and installing all 13 of the bathrooms we have done so far, particularly as we have another three to design for the barn.

I’ll be dispelling a few myths and common misconceptions, as well as sharing the best ways to save money, how to avoid mistakes before it’s too late, and giving you a few reminders of the things people often forget to consider. Part two will be next week.

A whopping 4 posts have been free in October. To get all the juicy bathroom info, as well as be able to read my full annual candle review coming this Sunday, and part two of the bathroom post next week, you’ll need to be a paid member. Come and join our merry crew.

Yes please, I’d like to be a member!
