I’m writing this in our conservatory, which is south-west facing and toasty warm. It’s 2pm on Friday and the sun is low in they sky. Unlike the rest of this week, that big buttery-yellow ball in the blue is smiling on me, offering balmy comfort and much needed light. Missy, our little old cairn terrier is snoring by my side. She sleeps most of the time now. Although, she never dozes through supper time. At precisely 6pm, still lying on her side, she will open one eye, her honey-coloured ears twitching back and forth, as she stretches both front legs ready for her next task of the day. It’s a hard life.
She’s been playing in our walled garden today as I started on a few jobs that needed doing. I say playing, she really just sniffs now with the odd roll in the grass when she’s so inclined. Every now and again she surprises me with a sudden burst of energy and I’m reminded of her sprightly, younger days when she would bounce around the garden, jumping for joy like a spring lamb. That youthful, care-free girl is still in there somewhere. I wonder if she gets annoyed with herself, like we do, that her body doesn’t portray the young girl that she still thinks she is?
Earlier this week I bought some herbs and edible flowers. Missy is currently giving them a good nose dive. She has a thing for Rosemary! I’m going to use them to create an indoor winter display. I’ll be telling you all about it later on in this post. I found an old school chemistry mixing bowl in a dusty thrift store in Bristol. It’s going to be my container.
